Michael DeFuria Joins Datanomix as Customer Success Engineer.
Why did you choose to join the Datanomix Team?
I was immediately drawn to the product opportunity. When I heard details of the Datanomix product, it captured my interest and spiked my enthusiasm. I am a life long woodworker and I’ve been following the developments of small American based manufacturers of woodworking tools. The quality, beauty, and precision of their tools, many produced by CNC machines, are prized additions in my woodshop. The opportunity to use my career skills to help support these types of manufacturers to use the Datanomix product is a perfect match.
But beyond the product, a great team is the engine of success. I knew some of the Datanomix team from my work at previous startup companies and I have much respect for their talent, integrity, and professionalism. So, a great team and great product made joining Datanomix an easy choice.
What makes you excited about your upcoming role and working with Datanomix customers?
I am most excited about using skills from all aspects of my career to help our customers be successful. I began my career as a customer support engineer doing installs, field repairs, and providing technical phone support. Some of my fondest highlights in my career have come from being on the front lines helping customers. The work is challenging and exciting, and provides immediate feedback and great satisfaction. I am also happy to bring my skills in software development and quality engineering to the role. In a small company, I feel that all of my skills will come into play to help us deliver a quality product for our customers.
Prior to Datanomix, what were you doing? How can that help you in your current position?
Prior to Datanimix, I was an early employee at a startup company that developed a hyperconverged system (HCI) which helped our customers simplify their data centers. The product we developed allowed our customers to reduce racks of equipment down to a few small systems that could be easily managed from a single pane of glass. To the small and mid range customers who could not afford a large IT staff, our HCI system was nothing short of a miracle.
I see many similarities with our customer base at Datanomix. Our data analytics and computer technology offerings at Datanomix give our customers tools to allow them to to concentrate on and improve upon what they do best, producing great parts.
What is one experience in your career that has helped shape who you are?
Being a certified Scrum Master coaching Agile development teams has really shaped my trajectory. I was able to see how a tightly coupled team could produce results that far exceed the sum of the individual pieces. Team members who work side-by-side and practice transparency, trust, and commitment help the team improve its efficiency, grow its velocity, and consistently meet team goals. Being able to coach such teams and watch them grow was an amazing feeling, and it spawned a personal epiphany about the power of teamwork.
Where can we find you on the weekends? How do you like to spend your free time?
On the weekend you can find me with my family, my wife, my children, and my grandchildren. Whether doing something simple like breaking bread together, or teaching my handmade pasta making skills to the next generations, it’s always filled with love and laughter.
As mentioned previously, I am a woodworker and I’m an amateur knife grinder. I can be found building things, sharpening things, or just puttering around the shop. I love outdoor activities like swimming, biking, hiking, kayaking, and cross country skiing. I am also a former triathlete whose love of the sport may yet inspire a return—stay tuned!
